April Site Updates - NMITE Centre for Innovation and Future Skills
Work this month has focused on internal finishes, acoustic integration, and the commencement of external groundworks and facade preparation.
Inside the extension, the atmosphere has shifted significantly. The walls have now been plastered, a milestone that always changes the "feel" of a project. The clean, neutral backdrop allows the glulam structure to take centre stage.
The Acoustic insulation is currently being installed within the ceiling structure, which will soon be finished with Camira acoustic fabric. A timber batten feature ceiling will complete the look, marrying high-performance sound absorption with our signature timber aesthetic.
The exterior of the site has been a hive of activity, focusing on both the invisible systems that make a building sustainable and the visible elements that define its character.
Externally, things are also moving forward.
The old tarmac has been removed and the surface water attenuation crates have been installed. These are a vital component of our drainage strategy, managing heavy rainfall on-site to reduce pressure on the local infrastructure.
The palette of the building is finally arriving in physical form. The clay cladding tiles have arrived on site, though installation will follow once the metal window and door surrounds are fitted. We’re delighted with the colour and texture of the tiles and are excited to see the building begin to reveal its public face.
